If you are preparing to leave your condo dormant for the winter, while you flock to warmer weather, please keep these tips in mind:
- Be sure to turn off and drain your outdoor water faucets and pipes to avoid freeze-induce damage.
- Close your fireplace flu to prevent critters from entering.
- Keep your thermostat set at 55º or higher and keep the air flowing all winter to prevent frozen pipes.
- Unplug your appliances to prevent potential fire hazards.
- If you unplug your refrigerator, be sure to leave the doors open and remove the water filter to prevent mildew.
- Make sure all your windows and doors are securely locked, alarm is armed, and valuables are secured.
- Remember to forward your mail, or arrange with a neighbor to collect it.
- Set a timer on some lights to deter thieves.
